Irish Aid, in conjunction with the Development Studies Association of Ireland (DSAI), the Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI) and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), will bring you a seminar with the following objectives: disseminating Ireland’s new Policy on International Development; presenting Irish and ODI research on areas related to the new policy goals and priorities; and building research and learning links between Irish third level institutions, NGOs and ODI.
This event is timely, following on from the recent launch of Ireland’s new Policy on international development and in advance of the launch of a new Research Strategy for Irish Aid. The policy and its priority areas will act as the frame for the presentations and discussions. The seminar will look at the how the impact of the policy can be maximised through putting learning and evidence into use. The aim is to identify the particular role of research institutions, to foster greater collaboration, and to highlight the centrality of a results-based approach to research. The expected outputs include:
- An initial mapping of Irish research relevant to the policy for international development;
- Identification of potential links between Irish research and ODI’s work for Irish Aid;
- An action plan for following up on ways of collaborating between Irish third level institutions, NGOs and ODI.
About TIDI
TIDI is a Trinity College initiative which coordinates and promotes TCD's expanded engagement with research and teaching on subjects related to international development. By helping to forge links between different teaching and research activities, it aims to ensure that the College’s overall approach to international development is distinctive, coherent and integrated.
About DSAI
The DSAI is the Irish affiliate of the DSA UK and Ireland and represents all of the main Universities and Higher Education Institutions in Ireland. DSAI’s vision is a dynamic and evidence-driven development sector in Ireland contributing to the effective reduction of global poverty. DSAI aims to be the central point to connect and promote research for development in Ireland and act as a meaningful platform for dialogue between the development studies ‘constituency’, NGOs, Irish Aid and other international development stakeholders.
About ODI
ODI is the UK’s leading independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues. The Institute works to produce a body of research on a range of themes that are relevant to Ireland’s policy priorities for international development including governance, power and politics, fragile states, secure livelihoods, social protection and humanitarian action. ODI is interested to make links with Irish institutions and organisations; the seminar is an opportunity to facilitate this and enhance ODI’s understanding of the Irish context and vice versa.
