Around the world, the impacts of conflict, efforts to prevent or reduce it, and approaches to build and sustain peace in its aftermath, are all profoundly gendered. Almost 20 years after the passage of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, global progress on the prevention of conflict, the protection of women’s rights during conflict, and their empowerment to participate in – and lead – decision-making and peacebuilding processes, lags far behind the ambition of this landmark framework. National Action Plans can be a vital tool for localising the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. As Ireland’s Second National Action Plan (2015-2018) comes to a close, join us for this interactive panel event and discussion on achievements, lessons learned and future opportunities for ambitious action across humanitarian actors, policymakers and researchers.
