Transformative Change? The Role of Evidence-Based Research and Impact in Global Development

About

The DSA Ireland Annual Conference seeks to provide an open and participatory space for dialogue and critical discussion on current, key issues facing those living in resource-poor settings.

It provides the opportunity for postgraduate students, researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts and papers on a cross-cutting themes and present those research findings at the annual conference.  The conference will also feature key-note speakers and panellists, providing plenary sessions for open and criticial discussion and debate.

Concept

As we move into the post-MDG era we need to critically examine to what extent the new post - 2015 agenda is adequate in terms of achieving transformative change.  A particular challenge will be how we might measure impact - and the role of evidence-based policy and practice – in the global development agenda now being shaped.

The DSA Ireland Annual Conference 2015 will look to address the following questions amongst others:

  • What lessons can we learn from existing impact assessments of development and humanitarian action interventions?
  • What is the role of evidence-based policy and practice in development aid?
  • What does ‘transformative change’ mean and how might it be achieved?
  • Is an emphasis on ‘what works’ limiting more creative development solutions?
  • How can the ending of global poverty be achieved with the active participation of those most affected by global poverty?
  • What can we learn from the MDG era to inform the post – 2015 development agenda?
