ADAPTING TO A CHANGING CLIMATE, DISCUSSIONS ON THE NATIONAL ADAPTATION FRAMEWORK
TIDI is hosting a seminar to profile the Government’s National Adaptation Framework on Climate Change. Ireland's first statutory National Adaptation Framework (NAF) was published by Minister Denis Naughten T.D. on 19 January 2018. The NAF sets out the national strategy to reduce the vulnerability of Ireland to the negative effects of climate change and to avail of positive impacts. It was developed under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and outlines a whole of government and society approach to climate adaptation in Ireland. The NAF details observed and projected global climate change as well as European and National drivers for adaptation and progress to date. The seminar will explore the complexities, challenges and opportunities associated with the NAF. This event is part of the Trinity Week celebrations 2018, which focuses on a theme of Energy. We also have a speaker from ICOMOS at the event.
ICOMOS works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage sites and is dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methods, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage. ICOMOS has been closely engaged with the topic of sustainable development, having held major scientific events and issued policy documents to highlight the vital role of cultural heritage within the sustainable development process. A major expression of this pursuit, the ICOMOS Concept Note on ‘Cultural Heritage, the UN Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs], and the New Urban Agenda [NUA]’ argues for “the positive integration of culture and cultural heritage into urban development plans and policies as a way to enhance sustainability of urban areas through heritage, in the context of Agenda 2030/ SDGs.”. In addition, perspectives will be given by Professor Anna Davies of TCD and Senator Grace O Sullivan of the Green Party
