With growing concern about the impact of the virus in Africa, the interdisciplinary panel draw on expertise from the fields of epidemiology, anthropology, economics and political economy to explore trends, pinpoint mitigation efforts and draw on lessons from dealing with previous zoonotic disease outbreaks. The discussion goes beyond the exploration of morbidity and mortality to explore what the pandemic tells us about the underlying systemic weaknesses of African economies and the associated vulnerabilities of the population.

Kristin Peterson is an associate professor of Anthropology at the University of California Irvine.
Howard Stein is a Professor in the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies (DAAS) and the Dept. of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan.
Emmanuel Sulle is Research Associate and Ph.D. Candidate at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
